In the United States, 42% of the population that is 18 years or older smoke(as of 2005) according to americanheart.org. It is obvoius that the smoking issue is becoming more serious as the years pass. There are basically no pros in smoking but a long list of cons that come with this dangerous habit. Taking the side of non-smokers i believe this new law is the start of something good for the overall community. This enforces the belief that smoking is bad, which might help, even if a little, for people to not pick up this habit. It also helps prevent second hand smoke exposure.
Taking the side of smokers, i feel that this law encourages a kind of discrimination agianst smokers, people make wrong choices all the time. Many people who are addicted to smoking wish they never started in the first place, however the nicotine prevents them from quiting. The negative view on smoking is good to encourage people not to pick up the habit, and encourage others to quit. However, even in this small blog we may be seeing the soon-to-be, if not already, general view of smokers, which is disgust agaisnt the smokers, when the disgust should be directed towards the suppliers, media, and the act of smoking. 42% of people being forced to smoke in outside during winter is a little harsh.
